Cannabinoids
Natural compounds found in cannabis. THC and CBD are the most known, but there are many others.

Aromatic compounds that shape how cannabis smells and how the experience feels.
Flower
Dried cannabis buds. The most traditional format. Fast onset when smoked or vaporized.
Concentrate
A stronger extract of cannabis. Higher potency. For experienced consumers.

Tincture
A liquid cannabis extract. Taken under the tongue or mixed into food or drink.

How Cannabis
Can Feel

Every body is different. These are general categories, not guarantees. Start low and adjust slowly.

Calm

Relaxing products suited for evening or downtime. Often higher in myrcene terpenes or CBD-forward formulations. Good for winding down.

Uplifted

Lighter, more energetic products for daytime. Often higher in limonene or pinene terpenes. Better for social settings or creative work.

Balanced

A middle ground between calming and uplifting. Good starting point for new consumers. Often 1:1 THC:CBD or moderate-THC products.

Ways to Use Cannabis

Format Onset Duration Notes
Flower Minutes 1–3 hours Strong aroma, versatile, wide strain variety
Vape Minutes 1–2 hours Lower odor than flower, convenient, fast-acting
Edibles 30–90 min 4–8 hours Slower onset — wait before taking more. Longer lasting.
Tinctures 15–45 min 2–4 hours Controlled dosing, flexible — taken under tongue or in food
Topicals 15–30 min Varies Applied to skin. Generally not intoxicating.
Concentrates Minutes 1–3 hours High potency. For experienced consumers.

Start Low, Go Slow

01

Start with a low dose

If you are new, begin with the lowest dose available — typically 2.5–5mg THC for edibles. Less is more until you know how your body responds.

02

Wait before taking more

Edibles can take 30–90 minutes to take effect. Taking more too soon is the most common mistake new consumers make. Wait the full window.

03

Adjust slowly over sessions

Once you know how a product feels, you can adjust. Increase by small amounts (2.5mg for edibles) and observe before increasing again.

04

Not sure? Our budtenders can help you choose a starting dose and format based on your goals and experience level.

If You Take Too Much

Stay calm. Cannabis overconsumption is uncomfortable but not medically dangerous for healthy adults. Symptoms pass.

Find a quiet, comfortable place. Drink water. Breathe slowly. Having someone nearby helps.

CBD may help counteract THC effects. A low-CBD product or CBD tincture can sometimes take the edge off.

Avoid alcohol, as it intensifies the effect. Do not drive.

Terpene Library

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell — and they shape the experience. Here are the most common terpenes you'll find on Elevated's shelf.

Myrcene
Earthy · Musky · Herbal

The most common cannabis terpene. Associated with relaxing, sedating effects. Often found in indica-leaning products.

Limonene
Citrus · Bright · Fresh

Associated with uplifted mood and energy. Often found in daytime or sativa-leaning products.

Also found in: Lemon peel, orange, grapefruit
Caryophyllene
Spicy · Peppery · Wood

Unique among terpenes — it interacts with CB2 receptors. Associated with anti-inflammatory and stress-relief effects.

Also found in: Black pepper, cloves, cinnamon
Pinene
Pine · Fresh · Sharp

Associated with alertness and memory retention. May counteract some THC-induced fogginess.

Also found in: Pine needles, rosemary, basil
Linalool
Floral · Lavender · Soft

Strongly associated with calming, anti-anxiety effects. Common in relaxation-forward products.

Also found in: Lavender, mint, coriander

Floral · Herbal · Piney

Less common but distinctive. Associated with uplifting and slightly sedative effects depending on dose.

Also found in: Lilac, nutmeg, cumin, apples

Often found in uplifting, energetic strains. Gives some products a sweet, tropical edge.

Common Questions

Edibles typically take 30–90 minutes to take full effect, depending on your metabolism and whether you've eaten. Wait the full window before taking more — this is the most common mistake.
We recommend against it. Alcohol significantly amplifies the effects of THC and can lead to an uncomfortable experience, especially for new users. If you do combine them, keep both doses very low.
Yes. THC metabolites can remain detectable in urine for days to weeks depending on frequency of use. Drug tests vary by type — consult your employer's policy or a healthcare provider if this applies to you.
Microdosing means taking a very small amount of cannabis — typically 1–5mg THC — to get a subtle effect without strong intoxication. It's a popular approach for daytime use, wellness, and new consumers.
Stay calm — cannabis overconsumption is uncomfortable but not dangerous for healthy adults. Find a quiet place to sit or lie down. Drink water. Breathe slowly. The effects will pass. CBD may help counteract THC effects if available. Do not drive.
